Ingredients

  • 1 egg · 50 g · 72 kcal
  • 50 g breadcrumbs · 50 g · 198 kcal
  • 1 onion · 110 g · 44 kcal
  • very finely chopped
  • 4 burger buns · 340 g · 949 kcal
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil · 14 g · 120 kcal
  • 1 tomato · 123 g · 22 kcal
  • sliced
  • 50 g lettuce · 50 g · 8 kcal
  • 60 g cheddar cheese · 60 g · 242 kcal
  • sliced
  • salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Mix the beef mince, egg, breadcrumbs, onion and plenty of seasoning in a bowl — use your hands and do not overwork it.
  2. Shape into 4 loose patties, slightly larger than your buns (they shrink). Chill for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over a medium-high heat and cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium.
  4. Lay the cheddar on top for the final minute so it melts, and toast the burger buns cut-side down in the same pan.
  5. Build: bun base, lettuce, patty, tomato, lid. Serve with whatever condiments you like.
💡 Press a slight dent in the centre of each raw patty so they cook flat instead of puffing into balls.
